Gaston's Glynnes

In GASTON'S GLYNNES, the beauty and natural history of the Glens of Antrim are brought alive in a most intimate and charming way. With brush and pen, artist Roy Gaston and writer Olly McGilloway (sadly deceased just before publication) invite the reader to share their walks through the nine Glens of Antrim. From Glentaisie to Glenarm, over the seasons of three full years, the authors walk hilltop, moorland, woodland, meadow and river bank, stopping here and there to capture special views and exciting moments of wildlife behaviour for a selection of paintings and stories.

More than 30 paintings and 40 line drawingsof wildlife: fishes, birds and mammals, in their own glens are presented as 'Precious Moments'; with interpretation of these moments written into 'The Walk'.

Gaston's special skills as a watercolourist and wildlife artist, and McGilloway's in-depth knowledge of wildlife, and his way with words, are delightfully combined in Gaston's Glynnes. Both men are highly artistic in their own fashion but agree that their best work centres on Nature. Yet, they believe that:

'Art does not imitate Nature, but founds itself on the study of Nature the selections which best accord with its own intention... then bestows on them that which Nature does not possess - the mind and soul of man'.

Throughout this splendid book the authors make known their personal love of wildlife, and their admiration of the Glens of Antrim. It is a book for all art lovers and nature lovers, and for those interested in some of our most beautiful and historic places.

The book was published in hard-cover and in a limited edition of less than five thousand. There will never be a re-print, so this makes the book a collector's item to treasure.
